BLACK SCUFF MARKS ON WHITE LINOLEUM
Dear Stan,
We just installed a new WHITE linoleum kitchen floor, and black scuff marks keep on appearing! We’ve scrubbed, polished, and can’t get all the marks off that our soles have left!

Fred & Ginger, San Francisco

Dear Fred & Ginger,
Aside from stopping dancing in the kitchen, have you tried TOOTHPASTE?! Really! A white paste-type toothpaste will take out those scuffs, and you’ll see your new floor gleam again!

DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME LIGHT SAVERS
Dear Stan:
Daylight savings time in October makes my home dark & gloomy! How can I keep from "falling back" in my black rooms this year?
Signed,
Scared in my Haunted House
San Francisco
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Dear Scared,
Try installing some photoelectric or motion sensors around your place! With these devices installed in your sockets and/or lamps, lights will turn on as you walk into a room -- and will turn out after you leave! Some of these smart items available in the Hardware section at Standard 5 & 10 ACE include:
-
Lampholder Sensor & Lite Control: (33701)
-
Dimmer Touch Socket: (31157)
-
Motion Sensor White: (3038338)
-
Screw-In Motion Sensor Light: (34661)
-
Night Light Double Outlet: (3031804)
-
Light Sensor 2/Pk.: (3031721)
Another idea is to set a Timer to turn on your lights, so you don’t have to fumble for the switch in the dark!!!
-
Event Timers: (64232)
-
Air Condition Timers (110 Volts): (67203)
-
Variable Security Timers: (66729)
-
7-Day Schedule Timer: (67123)
-
1-Event Table Top Timer: (60295)
-
24-Event Timer Programs (67917)
Hope this brings light to your night!

GOING TO COLLEGE
Dear Stan:
My child is going away to college in the fall, and the dormitory doesn’t allow any thumbtacks or nails to be used to hang up posters or photos.
Do you have any ideas?
Signed,
Tacky Tess
San Francisco
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Dear Tess,
Those clever people who brought us Quake Wax came up with just the thing for you: KID WAX is a durable, removable adhesive perfect for your brilliant child’s decorating needs!
Roll a small amount of KID WAX into a ball, press into a coin-sized pancake, and place in the corners of anything you want to affix.
Our friends have a 12-year-old with a promising future in interior decorating -- a new edition of any teen magazine means a new poster arrangement in the daughter’s room. The parents swear by KID WAX -- it’s reusable, doesn’t stain walls, and allows a rotation of teen heartthrobs to grace their house without having to invest in a lifetime supply of spackle.
Two other items I’ve found with similar results are ACE’s STIK TAK, and 3M’s REMOVABLE MOUNTING SQUARES.
Good luck to your child -- and enjoy your empty nest!

PESTY PROBLEMS
Dear Stan:
I’ve noticed that the hot weather is bringing out all sorts of pests in my apartment -- can you help?
Signed,
Don’t Bug Me
San Francisco
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Dear Buggy,
Yuck! No matter what kind of pests you’re talking about, ants, roaches, mosquitoes, rats... everyone wants to get rid of pests as soon as they appear, and Standard 5 & 10 ACE can help you get rid of whatever type of pests are bothering you (with the exception of ex-boyfriends, bratty kids or some mother-in-laws).
On the end of the aisle across from 12B, you’ll find a wide variety of sprays and traps to get rid of rats, mice, roaches, fleas, ants, spiders, aphids, and flying insects. We can help you be free of pests!
Now you know why people are always mistaking me for Arnold Schwarzenegger, "The Exterminator!"

VALUABLE ANCHORING FOR EARTHQUAKES
Dear Stan:
I just moved to San Francisco from the Midwest, and frankly, the thought of Earthquakes is terrifying. I've practiced my "duck & cover" drills, and I've put together an earthquake emergency kit, but how can I prepare my home's valuables for the next shaker?
Signed,
Quakin' in my Birkenstocks
San Francisco
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Dear Quakin',
Relax! Since we don't know when the next earthquake is coming, the best thing to do is to be prepared! You've done a great job already by being prepared and by putting together necessary items for your earthquake kit. Don't forget to rotate your water supply, and to check the strength of your batteries - our Duracell and Energizer batteries even have built-in power guages to show how much power the batteries have left!
I recently discovered a great item that can help you anchor your valuables in case of earthquakes and other shaky situations. QUAKE WAX is a new product that will anchor down your collectibles, crystal, china, and other valuables. It's stain-free, won't harm wood finishes, odorless, and best of all, it works! Customers have also praised QUAKE WAX for its usefulness for pets with wagging tails, and for feather-dusting. Pick up a jar of QUAKE WAX and see for yourself - your satisfaction is guaranteed!
Another great idea is to quake-proof your cabinets and drawers by adding child-proof latches and locks! (If you don't have kids, install quickly before your friends start speculating!) You can pick these items up on aisle 4a for $1.99 and under.
Also, don’t miss the new earthquake straps. They can be used to secure a bookshelf, TV, computer and much more.
